PAX — the big one — the biggest of big ones. It’s a huge event for games both AAA and indie, and a huge opportunity for attendees to check out yet unreleased games.
I’ve only been to PAX once, but I knew if I was going to go back, I wanted to contribute to what made PAX so great. I brainstormed with last year’s Ward Podcast crew — Alex, Mason, and Dan — about what kind of panel we could bring to the fine folks attending the Penny Arcade Expo, and the one thing I noticed on our brief trip to last year’s PAX East was this: sandwiched between the enormous AAA booths and flashy merch endcaps were small, independent developers trying to get their names out there and show their work to a wider audience.
Even though these indies have access to tens of thousands of excited players in a single PAX weekend, it can still be so easy to feel like their projects are getting overlooked. And then there’s you, the PAX attendee who’s trying to find those out of the way booths — the overlooked experiences, the “you-had-to-be-there” games, the hidden gems.
So that’s what we wanted to create: a destination to help attendees find these undiscovered treasures nestled away on the show floor, and as I alluded to before, we’re bringing back the original Ward Podcast crew together for this one. That’s right, joining me at PAX East for Hidden Gems: Discovering the Undiscovered of PAX East are Mason Brown, Dan Cotting, and Alex Rice! We’re sending our team to scurry across the Boston Convention Center in search of experiences befitting the name Hidden Gems.
What will we find? Your yet to be discovered favorite new indie game? Perhaps something exclusive to the show floor? Maybe a VR experience or two? The only way to know for sure and to play the games yourself is to join us on Friday, March 10th in the Cuttlefish Theatre at 3:00 pm ET! We hope to see you there!
